Measurements of the transverse beam-halo population at large amplitudes in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) provide crucial insights into the stored beam energy near the LHC collimators. These particles do not contribute significantly to the luminosity but their loss could impose limitations on accelerator performance through sudden loss spikes or even collimator damage in case of fast beam failures. Hardware design of a high-current, high step-down ratio Series Capacitor Buck converter prototype for slow-ramped powering of High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider inner triplet superconducting electromagnets
/ Otero-Olavarrieta, Alberto (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Matallana, Asier (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Martínez de Alegría, Iñigo (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Ibarra, Edorta (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Arias, Antoni (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; de Mallac, Louis (CERN) ; Pittet, Serge (CERN)
In this work, the main hardware design aspects of a slow-ramped DC/DC power converter prototype, developed to feed superconducting inner triplet (IT) electromagnets for the High Luminosity (HL) upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is presented. The proposal comprises a two-quadrant multiphase interleaved converter, based on the Series Capacitor Buck architecture, which operates at very high-current and high step-down ratio conditions. [...]

Complex Impedance of the LHC Main Dipole Magnet in the Presence of Artificial Short Circuits
/ Janitschke, M (CERN ; U. Rostock) ; Ravaioli, E (CERN) ; Verweij, A P (CERN) ; Willering, G (CERN) ; van Rienen, U (U. Rostock)
Interturn short circuits inside the coil-winding pack of superconducting magnets can lead to severe damage to the magnet during a quench or fast current ramps. Investigating their impact and finding ways to detect these nonconformities could save considerable run-time of an accelerator. [...]

Impact of high-intensity LHC beam operation on warm vacuum modules
/ Antuono, C (CERN) ; Krkotić, P (CERN) ; de la Fuente Garcia, E (CERN) ; Zannini, C (CERN) ; Calatroni, S (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Chiggiato, P (CERN) ; Galloro, A (CERN) ; Giacomel, L (CERN) et al.
During the third run of the Large Hadron Collider in 2023, which had the highest intensity bunch population compared to previous runs, a beam dump incident with operational delays occurred due to increased losses attributed to pressure spikes within a warm vacuum sector. Subsequent inspections revealed localized annealing and plasticization of the tension spring in the sliding contact radio frequency finger of a 212 mm diameter vacuum module, alongside traces of vapor deposition on the various module components with the stainless steel spring material.
