Time-resolved characterisation of a 10 m discharge plasma for AWAKE / Amoedo, C (CERN ; Lisbon, IST) ; Sublet, A (CERN) ; Torrado, N E (CERN ; Lisbon, IST) ; Silva, F (Lisbon, IST) ; Lopes, N C (Lisbon, IST)
Plasma sources with controlled and reproducible electron densities over metre-scale lengths are essential for extending the acceleration length in plasma-wakefield acceleration (PWFA), while ensuring stable wakefield formation. In the AWAKE experiment, this motivates the development of scalable plasma sources with highly uniform electron density profiles, together with diagnostics capable of characterising them. [...]

Spectral modeling of laser systems with diffractive cavities / Büker, Hendrik (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Eichhorn, Marc (KIT, Karlsruhe ; Unlisted, DE) ; Chrysalidis, Katerina (CERN) ; Granados, Eduardo (CERN)
We present a comprehensive modeling framework for predicting the spectral output of pulsed, narrow-linewidth lasers based on dispersive optical resonators. Our approach integrates polarization-dependent losses, mode steering, and dispersive effects within a unified round-trip matrix formalism, enabling the calculation of a wavelength-dependent resonator feedback function. A dosimetry innovation using hybrid pixel detectors in interventional theatres / Genetay, T (CERN ; Lausanne U.) ; Otto, T (CERN) ; Bochud, F (Lausanne U.) ; Carbonez, P (CERN ; Otago U.) ; Damet, J (Lausanne U. ; Otago U.)
Healthcare professionals using fluoroscopic imaging systems rank among the most highly exposed workers to ionising radiations, yet current radiation protection detectors fail to provide accurate measurements in these scenarios. The pulsed structure of the X-ray beam produced by these medical devices poses significant challenges to conventional instruments in measuring and characterising time-structured radiation fields. Search for Black Holes and Sphalerons Using Novel MachineLearning Techniques at CMS / Vami, Tamas Almos (UC, Santa Barbara) ; Zhang, Danyi (UC, Santa Barbara) /CMS Collaboration
A comprehensive search for microscopic black holes and electroweak sphalerons is presented, using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS detector during 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $138~\mathrm{~fb}^{-1}$. A novel tool has been developed to identify collider events with distinct kinematic features, based on the phase-space distance between events. [...]

A flexible data readout firmware for the CMS Phase-II off-detector trigger cards / Dauncey, Paul (Imperial Coll., London) ; Le Dortz, Olivier (LLR, Palaiseau) ; Magazzu, Guido (Frascati) ; Mallios, Stavros (Imperial Coll., London) ; Prosperi, Paolo (Frascati) ; Shukla, Raghunandan (Imperial Coll., London) /CMS Collaboration
The upcoming Phase-II upgrade of the LHC presents significant challenges for CMS off-detector electronics due to the dramatic increase in trigger rate and data volume leading to greater system complexity. The system must handle trigger rates up to 750 kHz, a significant increase with respect to the current limit of approximately 100 kHz, with a latency of 12.5 μs. [...]

Near-Infrared Light Attenuation Measurements of Radiophotoluminescence FD-7 Dosimeters Irradiated With X-Rays at High Doses / Raj Mandal, A (Jean Monnet U.) ; Ferrari, M (Jean Monnet U.) ; Aguiar, Y Q (Jean Monnet U. ; CERN) ; Morana, A (Jean Monnet U.) ; García Alía, R (CERN) ; Marin, E (Jean Monnet U.) ; Ouerdane, Y (Jean Monnet U.) ; Boukenter, A (Jean Monnet U.) ; Girard, S (Jean Monnet U. ; IUF, Paris)
Dosimetry techniques at high dose levels in the kGy–MGy range are challenging and still insufficiently explored. One of the emerging candidates for high-level applications is silver-doped metaphosphate glass, commercially known as FD-7 radiophotoluminescence (RPL) dosimeters. In this study, a free- space optical setup is used to enable a dedicated study for online (during irradiation) characterization of RPL dosimeters. Transmission spectra are measured online as a function of wavelength, dose, and dose rates, with additional monitoring of post-irradiation recovery kinetics. [...]

Data from Students’ Use of Generative AI in Innovation Education Programs at CERN IdeaSquare / Sairanen, Mikko (CERN) ; Poulaillon, Jimmy (CERN) ; Valtonen, Lauri ; Gaddi, Giulia (CERN) ; Batista, Catarina (CERN) ; Werner, Ole (CERN) ; Balocco, Matteo ; Bruno, Andrea ; Tandaypan, Diego Canova ; Costa-Perales, Ángel et al.
This article presents a dataset comprising Master-level students’ prompts and discussions with generative artificial intelligence (AI)as part of a challenge-based innovation problem-solving process. Openly accessible through Zenodo (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17857679), the data consists of 466pages of students’ conversations with generative AI tools and a 28-page extract comprising only the prompts. The data was collected through a survey for students participating in week-long intense innovation education programs at CERN IdeaSquare throughout2024.The data can be used to advance practice and theory regarding the use of generative AI in problem solving and innovation education.Scholars are encouraged to use the data in various forms of analysis, including thematic, content, and narrative analysis. High Power Slow Extraction for BDF/SHiP at CERN SPS / Fraser, Matthew Alexander (CERN) ; Sota, Pablo Arrutia (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) et al.
The High Intensity ECN3 (HI-ECN3) project at CERN aims to increase the intensity to the SPS North Area’s only underground experimental area ECN3 by well over an order of magnitude to welcome the Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) experiment at a new Beam Dump Facility (BDF). The project necessitates significant upgrades to the SPS slow extraction system to accommodate higher intensity proton beams while minimising beam loss and radio-activation. [...]

A simplified analytical model to simulate constrained recovery mechanisms of SMA rings exhibiting two-way shape memory effect / Giovinco, Valentina (Calabria U. ; CERN) ; Maletta, Carmine (CERN ; Calabria U.) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN) ; Niccoli, Fabrizio (CERN ; Calabria U.)
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) with shape recovery capabilities have been investigated recently at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to develop ring-shaped pipe couplers for vacuum applications. SMA couplers exploit the One-Way and Two-Way Shape Memory Effect (OW- and TW-SME) to mount/dismount vacuum pipe, by temperature variations. [...]
