Heavy ion physics in ATLAS and CMS
/ Dyndal, M (AGH-UST, Cracow)
/CMS Collaboration ; ATLAS Collaboration
An overview of the latest heavy-ion measurements with the ATLAS
and CMS detectors at the LHC, utilizing the high statistics 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb data
collected in 2015 and 2018, is given. These include multiple measurements of jet
production and structure, which probe the dynamics of the hot and dense medium
(quark-gluon plasma) formed in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions; measurements
of quarkonia and heavy flavor production to probe the medium properties; and
various measurements of ultra-peripheral collision processes..

Accelerating structures for the FCC-ee pre-injector complex: RF design, optimization, and performance analysis
/ Kurtulus, Adnan (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Raguin, Jean-Yves (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Craievich, Paolo (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bettoni, Simona (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
The Future Circular Collider electron-positron (FCC-ee) pre-injector complex demands high-performance RF accelerating structures to achieve reliable and efficient acceleration of beams up to 20 GeV. In this study, we describe an analytical approach to RF design for the traveling-wave (TW) structures including a pulse compression system to meet the rigorous specifications of the FCC-ee pre-injector complex. The gravitational wave and short gamma-ray burst GW170817/SHB170817A
/ De Rujula, Alvaro (CERN ; Madrid, IFT)
This event, so far unique, beautifully confirmed the standard views on the gravitational waves produced by a merger of two neutron stars, but its electromagnetic multi-wavelenth observations disagreed with the numerous initial versions of the “standard fireball model(s)” of gamma ray bursts. Contrariwise, they provided strong evidence in favour of the “cannonball” model. [...]

Physics programme of ALICE 3: A next-generation heavy-ion detector for LHC Run 5 and beyond
/ Nicassio, Nicola (INFN, Bari ; Bari U.)
/ALICE Collaboration
The ALICE Collaboration is designing a completely new apparatus, ALICE 3, for the LHC Runs 5 and 6. The detector comprises a large pixel-based tracking system covering eight units of pseudorapidity, complemented by various particle identification systems including silicon time-of-flight layers, a ring-imaging Cherenkov detector, a muon identification system, an electromagnetic calorimeter and a forward conversion tracker.
